Pascua Yaqui Tribe is Uplifting Construction Jobs with New Workforce Development Center

From the Pascua Yaqui Development Corporation Website

Overview of Project

The Pascua Yaqui Tribe established the Pascua Yaqui Development Corporation (PYDC) in 2018 to diversify and strengthen the Tribe’s economy. Now the PYDC is continuing that mission by investing more into trade jobs and training.

The EDA press release states that the PYDC has been granted $4 Million to support workforce development at the Pascua Yaqui Reservation and surrounding community. The grant will support construction of a 3,200-square-foot workforce development facility and the acquisition of heavy equipment to facilitate training in the construction trades. The project is expected to create 135 jobs with more job creation going forward.

PYDC currently offers scholarships and apprenticeships and this workforce development center will expand their capacity to expand on these programs. PYDC CEO, Daune Cardenas, told Tribal Business News that the facility aims to train project managers and heavy equipment operators.

Senator Mark Kelly said in the EDA press release

“Arizona’s economy has unique needs, especially in rural and tribal communities, and it’s important that we continue to support these areas through targeted investments,”

This funding for the Pascua Yaqui community is a prime example of how we can create good-paying jobs and bolster our workforce. By constructing a new training facility and providing essential resources, we are helping to build a stronger, more resilient economy for Southern Arizona.”
