Tribal Funding Opportunities and Resources
The U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) is committed to meeting the needs of Tribal communities and increasing their participation in their grant programs. To that end, the programs listed below offer a variety of resources to Tribal communities to help facilitate economic growth. For more information on EDA funding opportunities, please visit eda.gov/Tribal or download the summary handout here.
Disaster Supplemental Funding
The Disaster Supplemental Funding program provides awards that are designed to address economic challenges in those areas where a Presidential declaration of a major disaster has been issued. Funding will help communities devise and implement long-term economic recovery strategies through a variety of construction and non-construction projects.
Distressed Area Recompete Pilot Program
The Distressed Area Recompete Pilot Program is an economic development initiative designed to provide grant funding to distressed communities across the country to create and connect workers to good jobs and support long-term comprehensive economic development by helping to reduce the high, prime-age (25 to 54 years of age) employment gap.
Economic Adjustment Assistance
The Economic Adjustment Assistance (EAA) program assists state and local interests in designing and implementing strategies to adjust or bring about change to an economy. It focuses on areas that have experienced or are under threat of serious structural damage to the underlying economic base. Under EAA, EDA administers its Revolving Loan Fund (RLF) Program, which supplies small businesses and entrepreneurs with the gap financing needed to start or expand.
Planning and Local Technical Assistance Program
The Planning and Local Technical Assistance programs help communities, including Tribal nations, prepare economic development plans and studies designed to build capacity and economic resiliency. It provides support to local organizations, including Economic Development Districts, Tribes, and other eligible areas, with short and long-term planning efforts.
Public Works
EDA’s Public Works program helps distressed communities revitalize, expand, and upgrade their physical infrastructure. This program enables communities to attract new industry, encourage business expansion, diversify local economies, generate local investment, and create or retain long-term jobs through land acquisition, development, and infrastructure improvement projects that establish or expand industrial or commercial enterprises.
Regional Technology and Innovation Hubs
The Regional Technology and Innovation Hubs program, or Tech Hubs, is an economic development initiative to drive technology—and innovationcentric growth that leverages existing R&D strengths and technology demonstration and deployment capacities (public and private) within a region to catalyze the creation of good jobs.
University Centers
EDA’s University Centers program enables institutions of higher education and consortia of these institutions to establish and operate University Centers focused on leveraging university assets to build regional economic ecosystems that support innovation and high-growth entrepreneurship, resiliency, and inclusiveness.
