Mitchell Berg - Local Government and Community Development Educator and Specialist
Mitchell Berg is focused on training the next generation of Local Government professionals, as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the O'Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University Bloomington.
Berg has 20+ years of State and local government experience, with a broad depth of experience in the field of finance, budgeting, HR, grant writing, and community and economic development.
Of the 16+ years as a City Administrator berg has served 8+ years for the City of Mahnomen, which is located entirely within the exterior boundary of the White Earth Nation. During that time, he initiated several housing projects including receiving two Small Cities Development Block Grants (SCBG) and assisting the White Earth Nation in their efforts to secure MHFA funding for a 24-unit permanent supportive-housing development. While working with the University of Minnesota Crookston, he has worked extensively with tribal nations and communities across Minnesota on a number of workforce and economic development initiatives.
Additionally, his dissertation on building tribal, city, and county cooperation, has enabled him to work with other tribal and non-tribal local units of government who are wanting to find ways to promote cooperation.
Lastly, with 3+ years of undergraduate and graduate teaching experience he have has taught courses in community leadership, emergency management, public information and communications, local budget and finance, local economic development, and tribal community development.
