Matthew (Matte) Wilson

Matte Wilson is the Deputy Director of Sicangu Community Development Corporation (Sicangu CDC), a 501C3 non-profit, part of the Siċaŋġu Co ecosystem of organizations. He is an enrolled citizen of the Sicangu Lakota Oyate (Rosebud Sioux Tribe). Matte studied Health Administration and Policy at Creighton University in Omaha, NE USA.

In 2018 Matte joined the Sicangu Food Sovereignty Initiative (SFSI) as an intern and quickly fell in love with the work, recognizing the program’s potential to improve lives. Matte’s passion and commitment was recognized and he became Food Sovereignty Director from 2019-2024. Under his leadership, the initiative has expanded their farmer’s market, implemented a mobile market and CSA program, and enhanced educational opportunities by growing the community farm youth internship program and starting an apprenticeship program for beginning farmers. Matte is a former MIT SOLVE Indigenous Communities Fellow and a Rockefeller Foundation-Acumen Food Systems Fellow. His team were recognized as winners of the Rockefeller Foundation's Food System Vision Prize
